A super-wide load will move from Edmonton to Fort McMurray over five days, starting March 5, causing traffic delays for travellers in both directions. The load will use the entire width of a two-lane highway, including the shoulder. Affected roadways include: Whitemud Drive, Anthony Henday Drive and Highways 14, 21, 36, 28 and 63. Pilot vehicles will accompany the load and will travel ahead to advise motorists to pull over and stop while the load passes. Motorists travelling behind the load will also face delays. The load will pull over when safe to do so to allow traffic to pass along sections of two-lane highways. Travel route March 5, between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. Whitemud Drive and Highway 14 • South on 99 Street in Edmonton to east on 63 Avenue. • South on 91 Street to east on 51 Avenue. • Exit on Roper Road and continue east to 75 Street. • Turn south onto Whitemud from the westbound lanes before crossing into the eastbound lanes. • East on Whitemud Drive to Anthony Henday Drive travelling south to Highway 14. • Around 4 a.m., the load will park at the junction of Highway 14 and Highway 21. March 6, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Highway 14 and Highway 36 • East on Highway 14 to Highway 36, 123 kms. • North on Highway 36 to Two Hills, about 70 kms. • Around 5 p.m. the load will park in Two Hills overnight. March 7, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Highway 36, 28 and 63 • North on Highway 36 to Highway 28, about 59 kms. • West on Highway 28 to Highway 63, about 100 kms. • North on Highway 63 to Grasslands, about 102 kms. • Around 5 p.m., the load will park in Grasslands for the night. March 8, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Highway 63 • North on Highway 63 to Fort McMurray, 256 kms. • Around 5 p.m. the load will park outside of Fort McMurray. March 9, between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. • North on Highway 63 through the City of Fort McMurray to its destination.
