A teenage boy is due to appear in court today charged over the alleged attempted robbery of a business in the city overnight. It was about 7.20pm yesterday (Monday 19 May 2014), that the 15-year-old youth allegedly threatened the owner of a fruit stall, at the corner of George and Quay streets, with a knife, demanding cash. A customer alerted police from Sydney City Local Area Command and the teen was chased on foot along George Street towards Central Station. He was arrested in Little Regent Street and a knife was allegedly found in his pants when searched. The boy was taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with robbery while armed with an offensive weapon. He was refused bail and held in custody overnight before his appearance in a children’s court today (Tuesday 20 May 2014). The 30-year-old stall owner, and his 56-year-old mother, were not injured.
