A teenager has had his driver’s licence suspended and will have to pay over $2 200 in fines after allegedly exceeding the signed speed limit by more than 60km/h in North Sydney today. Just after 5am (Thursday 21 August 2014), officers attached to Harbourside Traffic and Highway Patrol were conducting speed enforcement duties as part of Operation Saturation on the Warringah Freeway in North Sydney. Police allegedly detected a Toyota Kluger travelling north at 146km/h in an 80km/h signed area. The 19-year-old driver was stopped and spoken to by police, who suspended his licence for six months on the spot. The teen was later issued a traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit over 45km/h and was issued a fine of $2,252. Traffic and Highway Patrol Acting Assistant Commissioner, Bob Ryan, said, “This is a costly lesson for the teenager, however he is lucky he got away with his licence suspended and a fine,” A/Assistant Commissioner Ryan said. “Police will continue to target drivers acting irresponsibly and dangerously on the state’s road, in an effort to help reduce the road toll. “Anyone who does choose to break the road rules, including speeding, drink driving, using a mobile phone while driving, and driving unrestrained, will be caught and dealt with accordingly,” he said. Operation Saturation is a joint initiative between NSW Police and the Centre for Road Safety. Highway Patrol officers will continue to be deployed in large numbers across the state this month. Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://www1.police.nsw.gov.au/. Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
