A time for deep reflection as we mourn the loss of a hard-working, cheerful compatriot, a senior Nursing Sister at the Ebola Ward in Kenema, Sister Mbalu Fornie. Ladies & Gentlemen, I run a small Whatsapp social media group of 50 persons made up of diverse political and social backgrounds. It is like an EXPERIMENT IN POLITICAL TOLERANCE as I have the APC Chairman/Leader, H.E. President Ernest Koroma and former SLPP Chairman/Leader John Benjamin in there alongside others like APC Spokesman/Secretary General Osman Yansaneh, Cabinet Ministers like Agricultures Dr. Sam Sesay and very strong SLPP Maada Bio supporters like Anna Moussa and Yusuf Keketoma. Some prolific independent journalists and civil society activists are also part of the 50 members. Whilst understandably, the President only peeps in and never contributes anything, once in a while, we are graced with updates from the other big fishes. One such update was 8 days ago when John Benjamin posted of his visit to the Kenema Government hospital and, in the low risk area, he took photos with nurses manning the Ebola ward. This morning, Mr. Benjamin has just made another update to the group about one of the nurses (May her soul rest in peace). Here is Benjamins update alongside the original photos. (JOHN BENJAMIN - 21/07/2014): The lady in the red uniform, Mrs Mbalu Fornie is a Staff at the Ebola facility center in Kenema. She trained at the Nixon Memorial Hospital in Segbwema and has worked at Lassa Fever Unit for over fifteen years in Segbwema, Panguma and Kenema Hospitals. She was happily at work one week ago when I visited their center. She tested positive for Ebola two days after my visit. This morning I just got the sad news that she has died and will be buried in plastic sheet like the others before her. May her soul rest in perfect peace.
