A true (and perhaps more than a little surreal) snapshot of Notting Hill Life: While walking the dogs around Notting Hill this morning they stopped to study a lamp post on Kensington Park Road. Quite normal you might say and youd be right. While Harry and Cody were sniffing contentedly at their pole a well enough dressed lady in her (probably) mid to late seventies carrying a couple of light shopping bags stopped to watch and smiling down at them said in impeccable 50s BBC, Theyre looking for some marijuana, I expect. With a slight sense of surprise and a big smile of inclusion I responded, I hope they find some, ha ha. She looked up at me and for the first time I noticed the mischief lurking behind those older but fun filled eyes. Deadpan she replied, Oh, they wont find any. Ive got it all! Well, good for you I said and stepped further in to the deepening waters, always good to corner the market in that sort of thing - especially around Notting Hill. Ah, Ive got it alright, she said, well, youve got to have some fun, havent you? Cody lifted his head, tired perhaps of fruitlessly searching for this imaginary marijuana at the foot of the lamp post (Harry though persevered) and looked at her. She smiled again in his direction then lifted her eyes to meet mine and said, with what I can only describe as a killer look of absolute glee, Oh, he hadnt better sniff me, hell smell the weed and then hell bite my puss off and I wont have any more fun. As the waters finally closed around my head, I mumbled something lame and drowned. As always the perfect response came later. What I should have said was What the hell are you on and where did you get it! It just goes to prove that you cant stop getting older but you dont have to get old :-) Have a great day.
