A twist in the LG maintenance contract tale: This time I managed to register a complaint (they dont have the word appointment in their lexicon, perhaps with good reason!) and the technician landed up a day or so late (already adjusted for in my mind). This person promptly peeled the shell off the microwave oven - something that no other technician has done in past 2 years of the maintenance contract for the same appliance. He then examined the innards of the machine and heated a bowl of water in it to demonstrate the fitness of the oven, repeated his predecessors sage advice to me to use the machine as long as it works, and not bother to replace the door just because it has an unsightly hole in it. And then, when I was expecting him to clean and buff the machine to gleaming glory, he declined the opportunity saying thats not what he is meant to do; he is meant to do the examination / servicing / repair that I cannot do myself. Which is blindingly correct! My continuing reflections from that moment: (i) What have I been paying for for the past 2 years? Someone landing up and wiping the microwave down on my behalf, after a few days of calling and following up each time? (ii) Did LG just experience an epiphany that maintenance means something more than wiping a machine?
