A while back I told a story about a patient who spoke Vietnamese - TopicsExpress

A while back I told a story about a patient who spoke Vietnamese and had a provider speaking to him in English and Spanish and relayed this to my nursing class last year. Well, today, I had one of my nursing students from that class figure out that a patient (not her own patient) was not understanding the providers that were in and out the room. The student called one of her fellow nursing students to come and translate for the patient, asked about his pain, concerns, and answered all his questions. Then the student drew pictures of actions (pain with a sad face, a stick figure if he wanted to walk, etc) and left it for the patient to use with the staff so he could point to what he needed. How much do I love this??? Almost as much as the Shocks beating Gonzaga! Regardless, so proud of the nurses who advocate for their patients, who take the extra time and go the extra mile. I have hope....we are going to be well taken care of when we are old(er). Where is the "love" button??
