A wild night of action took place last Saturday night at the Orange County Fair Speedway. A Super Moon graced the skies, the CRSA sprints ran two, E&H Services LLC Southern Tier Challenge A-Main features, a sprint car left the ballpark into the street, there was a huge brawl in the pits during the sportsman feature, and a lady sprint car driver got her first ever CRSA win in front of her hometown crowd! The first A-main was a makeup race from May 3rd which was postponed due to rain. Dalton Herrick and Scott Flammer brought the field to Kenny Marshalls green flag and it was Flammer getting the advantage down the front stretch. Herrick tucked into second followed closely by Jeremy Quick and Geoff Quackenbush. Flammer stretched his lead to a half straightaway on Herrick as Goodrich slipped past Quackenbush as did Brittany Tresch. As the race settled in, Herrick started to reel in Flammer and even got under him in turn two with just a few laps remaining. Flammer kept his momentum on the high side and pulled back in front to lead the last couple laps and win his first race of the year with a determined Dalton Herrick less the a car length back. Quick finished third, Goodrich fourth and Tresch rounded out the top five in this non-stop event. Next up was a complete new show. During the first heat, Josh Pieniazeks string of four Saturday wins came to an abrupt end as his Warren Alexsons 3p turned hard left into the inside barrier going in to turn one. The car jumped into the air and started to tumble across the turn, up and over the outside retaining wall and through the billboards onto the street. Josh climbed out uninjured but a little sore. The car was a loss as was the Johnson Toyota billboard. Ironically, it was also Johnson Toyota night at the speedway. The heats were won by Dalton Herrick and Jeff VanSteenburg. The start of the second A-Main saw Emily VanInwegen lead the pack into turn one with current points leader, Scott Goodrich close behind. Last years point champion, John Matrafailo quickly moved to third followed by Kyle Smith and Geoff Quackenbush. Just one lap later, the red flag was thrown for Dan Hennessy as he made contact with a wounded, Jeff VanSteenburg, and got upside down on the back stretch. Dan escaped unscathed. After the single file restart at the cone, VanInwegen again grabbed the lead and was on the move. Tenth place starter, Jeremy Quick, had shot into fifth by lap three, Chad King had moved from eleventh to seventh, twelfth starting, Scott Flammer was eighth and Brittany Tresch who started way back in fifteenth had already got up to ninth! VanInwegen, who has had an up and down season so far, was determined to get that monkey off her back and started to put some distance on Goodrich, Matrafailo, Quick and Smith. As the race went on caution free, local lady racer, Emily VanInwegen pickup her first ever, CRSA Sprint Car Tour victory in front of her hometown friends and family! Scott Goodrich, who also calls OCFS home, drove to a solid second, Matafailo finished third, Quick fourth, and Kyle Smith was fifth. Notes: Brittany Tresch picked up two Magsarus Hard Charger Awards on the night. Mark Taylor made his first start in 2014 as did Frank Jashembowski.
