A wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government, and this is necessary to close the circlue of our felicities. -Thomas Jefferson restrain men from injuring one another relates to murder, thievery, racism, discrimination and monopolies that would destroy another mans body and spirit and personal wealth that Jefferson wanted to protect against which is why we have equal employment opportunity, Civil Rights and minimum wage laws and poverty programs put in place by our government which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned is an obvious reference. With the standard of a country set forth by its laws and its conduct feel free and choose your prospects and shoot for the stars as a farmer, musician, senator, business owner, self employed tutor etc. Why I dont affiliate with MOST Libertarians anymore is because of their misinterpretation of what small governments job is... By the word of their Jesus Christ as it were these progressive policies fit into place with their idea of small government. Also I will no longer trifle myself with the big government small government argument. Thats like having an argument over small population or big population in a state, country, planet etc. neither are the case here and neither are good ideas that will produce good outcomes. Like Jefferson said, This is the sum of GOOD government. I stand for good government an a good population and against a bad government and a bad population and nothing more and in my observation the Libertarians I have met and talked to, per their absolute philosophy, have become another version of contradictory Christians that misinterpret their messiah (Jefferson) and place unfounded absolute faith in a certain faction because it is what their good book says (Capitalism and Freedom by Milton Friedman and the general population of nitwits we call the people) and that is my rant of the evening :)
