A woman once went to D.L. Moody and said, “Mr. Moody, I owe you an apology. I have gossiped about you. I have lied about you. I want you to forgive me.” In reply, Mr. Moody said, “Follow me.” He took her up to the roof with him. He had his secretary bring him a pillow. While he was up on the roof, he took a knife and cut the feather pillow, and then he shook it. The wind caught the feathers and scattered them everywhere. He said, “Ma’am, when you pick up all those feathers, then the damage with your tongue can be taken care of. Until you do that, I can forgive you all day long, but the damage will never go away.”
