A year ago today I lost my best friend and partner. Healer was with me from the time he was just 8 weeks old to almost 17 years. And although I knew his life could not last with me forever, I cherished every moment and did not want to say goodbye. The night before I helped him leave he ran off something he had never done his entire life. He fell into a narrow spot behind a rock in the canyon and finally began to answer me when I called. I do believe he was trying to spare me the goodbye-how I felt about things was his entire life you see. Yes 17 is a long life and we had so many adventures together it is impossible to list. His every breath was for and about me. The devotion was so intense I was humbled daily. I kept his blanket from his bed and can still smell him altho he is fading away. I hear him in my dreams and watch him help me with the horses when they got out or when I unloaded a bad one. He knew bad people and bad intentions fro the animals I worked with. He was never wrong. The depth of his love is impossible to describe. I will miss you for the rest of my life buddy.
