A year ago today for my birthday I vowed to perform CPR on a patient at work before my birthday came around again. I literally missed my goal by 20 minutes. I was called down to the emergency department to help with chest compressions (since it is so physically demanding, people have to switch out every two minutes.) A patient with hypothermia was cold and blue, and I shook with fear as put a gown, gloves and mask on. I almost walked out. But I knew this had to be done. As they called time, the girl in front of me jumped back, and I automatically stepped up and started pumping, pumping, pumping. I saw glassy brown eyes, a bloody jacket. Dont look at his face, my mind said, to no avail. Two minutes passed. TIME!! I stepped away, then back in line.
