A year ago tonight, my beautiful Mom told us she was going home, breathed her last and did just that. As I went out to her grave with a pumpkin and a Diet Coke, I realized something important. Cate was with me asking her myriad of ongoing questions. Why wasnt her name on the stone?, what would happen to Grammie in an earthquake?, etc. Just when I was going to ask her to give me a break, I realized how she was a question-asker just like Mom. Cate said, So Im like Grammie? Yes, love, you are. And Neve sings like her, and Nichole and Samantha have her teaching gene, and Sarah has her biting wit, Megan her sarcasm, Lauren her passion, Spencer her determination, Emily her humor and on and on. And though at times my grief can knock me to my knees, it is how I see her life woven into mine that is the joy I carry forward. She loved fall, pumpkins, grandchildren, British murder mysteries, good coffee, her Lord, talented pianists and so much more. She loved... And made that a priority. I will be spending the day drinking coffee, eating a maple long john, watching some of our favorite movies... Celebrating all the ways she is a living part of who I am. She would like that.
