A young photojournalist working for Mitra Televsion, Zubair Hatami, who was critically wounded in a suicide attack at Esteqlal High School, breathed his last on Saturday night. Hatami, 23, who sustained fatal injuries in the December 11 attack, was in a coma since past 10 days. His tragic and untimely demise has been widely condoled by the media fraternity in Afghanistan. Other journalists injured in the attack, who are admitted in various hospitals, are recuperating well, according to reports. Naimat Rawan, a photojournalist with Afghan Zariza and a close friend of Hatami, says his death has left a deep void. “He was so young and so bright and potentially his best years were still ahead of him,” says Rawan. “Now, he has left for heavenly abode, leaving us all devastated.” Nazir Ikhlas, a photojournalist who has known Hatami, says the killing of unarmed civilians and journalists is reprehensible and unjustified. “How can you justify killing of a young journalist who has nothing to do with politics, who is simply doing his job,” says Ikhlas. “Whether it is the attack at Estaqlal School or Army Public School in Peshawar, we must unequivocally condemn such barbarism.”
