AA has a 90% to 95% failure rate. And for the failures, it hurts them even more because EVERYONE thinks that AA is infallible. So, the addict thinks of themselves as an even worse person for not succeeding in a program that everyone praises as helpful. I see the same thing with self-help seminars, easy weight loss diets, & how-to parenting books. When everyone promotes the FEW who it actually works for & doesnt highlight how commonly it fails, the people who bought into it think that the failure is their fault. They think everyone can do it except them. THIS is why I refuse to fill people full of false confidence. Because, it hurts FAR more people than it helps. AND, it pushes the people who it didnt help into hiding so they they never announce how badly they feel after. #Science #ScienceIsBetterThanFeelGoodPeople
