AATWs January 16th Song-a-Day notes the Mawlid (Malid al-Nabi), - TopicsExpress

AATWs January 16th Song-a-Day notes the Mawlid (Malid al-Nabi), which is a celebration of the 570 AD birthday of Islams Prophet Muhammad. Though Muslims worldwide mark the birthday--which actually falls this year on January 14--with everything from private prayers to public processions, some Islamic leaders, noting that Muhammad himself is not known to have celebrated his birthday and bemoaning the holidays increasing commercialization, condemn bold celebrations. AATW marks the day on January 16 in solidarity with Kuwait, which moved public observance this year to Thursday, January 16th to connect it to a long weekend, giving Kuwaitis more time to party boldly. . . or not. With much respect, AATW will celebrating by singing Kollina our version of Arabic classical vocal legend Oum Khaltoums All Leila Wa Leila. ow.ly/sAyKO
