ABOUT THE SILVER MOON RESTAURANT IN SANTA ROSA, NM: I received - TopicsExpress

ABOUT THE SILVER MOON RESTAURANT IN SANTA ROSA, NM: I received a replay from the man who either owns or manages the Silver Moon Restaurant in Santa Rosa, NM. First, his response. My reply follows his email. From: Keith Ross To: elton_l_boyd@yahoo Sent: Thursday, January 30, 2014 2:18 PM Subject: Silver Moon in Santa Rosa Mr Boyd, Sorry to hear about your being disappointed with the Silver Moon in Santa Rosa. The employees do sometimes let in the “local coffee drinkers” before they actually open, and sometimes they do not open by the appointed hour” (I have never been much of a businessman ~ Rick Blaine). But I do apologize for this quirk and can see how it could be misconstrued as rudeness. But I assure you that the ladies who work at the Silver Moon are total sweethearts! As for the local menu, we do offer a local discount menu, but it is no secret. In fact we are proud to do it, especially since our locals are living in one if the poorest counties in the United States. Our per capita income was $11,241 per year as of the last census. Guadalupe County has been blessed in many ways, but not economically… Also, as you may or may not know offering local discounts is pretty standard. Just like when you go to the zoo and aquarium in Albuquerque you get a discount when you show your NM drivers license. The same goes for Disney, and all the resorts in Las Vegas, NV. But, I know where you are coming from. Not being offered the local menu made you feel as though you were not as appreciated as other guests, and for that I apologize. We at the Silver Moon do care about people and relationships (we certainly aren’t in this for the money!). So please accept my personal apology. Very Best, Keith Ross p.s. If you would like to give us another chance, please email me your address. I would love to send you a free gift certificate. ********************************************************** Here is my response: Mr. Ross Thank you for your response, including an apology and your kind offer for a free gift certificate. On principle, I will not accept your gift certificate. This is not a ploy to get something for free. It is a protest against your discrimination against those of us who live outside your zip code. I have posted your policies on pilot car and trucking industry sites on the internet. Without any exception, the overwhelming response across the country has been one of shock and disbelief that your kind of discrimination even exists. Discrimination of any kind is ugly at best. Yours seems to be illogical. If your community is so poor, it seems that you would WANT outside money in your community. Economists tell us that every dollar spent in a community turns over seven times before it leaves a community. Your policies discourage outsiders to spend money at your restaurant, and therefore your community. When your staff refuses to allow customers from outside your community to enter your facility AFTER your posted opening time, it is discriminatory and, frankly, rude. Again it is illogical. In the incident I mentioned, we wanted to get coffee and breakfast and move on to our business of moving oversize loads through your community. We would not have interfered in any way with your coffee klatch. Since our travel time is limited to daylight hours, we needed to move on. One of us in that group is diabetic and needed breakfast that did not include pastries at a convenience store. Our money could have better helped you support the poor in your community. I wonder how many other paying customers your staff has turned away over the years. You cannot compare unpublished local citizen discounts to tax supported facilities such as the zoo and aquarium in Albuquerque. Naturally, tax paying citizens should get a discount at tax supported facilities. Your facility is not tax supported. Maybe you should pare your tourist prices to local price levels and therefore encourage more non-locals to patronize your facility. I will post your response as well as my reply on the same groups. Until you publicly change your policies, I will not be your customer. Elton Boyd dba All American Pilot Car Services
