ACCEPT FG’S OFFER, STUDENTS BEG ASUU National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone C, and the Nigerian University Students’ Association (NUSA), has pleaded with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to accept the federal government offer. Both associations, in a statement signed by Speaker of NUSA, Comrade Shu’aibu Mohammed, and the NANS’ coordinator, Zone C, Comrade Adio Friday, after a protest match in Lafia, Nasarawa state, said ASUU should accept the offer and return to the classroom while negotiations continue for the interest of the students. It implored ASUU to devise a means of resolving its demands with government rather than embarking on a nationwide strike “that is more detrimental to the students who are at the receiving end.” While urging it to involve student union leaders on issues that directly affect students, the body thanked the federal government for “its efforts so far, especially the provision of N130 billion NEEDS Assessment Funds allowances of ASUU members.” They appealed to the federal government to consolidate on the progress made, noting that it shouldn’t have waited until the strike had degenerated to “this extent.” “We call on ASUU to shift grounds for the interest of the students they are protecting, while the federal government fulfills her part.”
