ADAM Rocks will bring a smile The new Vauxhall ADAM Rocks “maintains the fun and funky theme” the original ADAM had when it launched 18 months ago, says the Daily Record’s Maxine Ashford. The ADAM Rocks Air “ups the ante even further” with a “roughty-tufty crossover body style, raised chassis, wider stance, plus an electric folding canvas roof that opens in just seven seconds and closes in eight for hours of open-top fun.” It’s the first Vauxhall to be powered by the company’s new 115bhp 1.0-litre ECOTEC three cylinder turbo-petrol engine, mated to an all-new six-speed manual gearbox. “This new powertrain results in a 0-62mph sprint time of 9.9 seconds and a top speed of 121mph, yet it still manages to deliver combined fuel efficiency of 59mpg with carbon emissions of 114g/km on 17-inch wheels.” The Rocks Air comes “generously equipped”, with standard equipment including a seven-speaker sound system, DAB radio, remote central locking, tinted windows, LED signature lamps and a leather wrapped multi-function steering wheel. “Of course, an ADAM wouldn’t be an ADAM without lots of personalisation. So the Rocks Air’s cabin has its own distinctive character with two new interior trims.” It “looks the business”, says Ashford. It also handles “very well”, Ashford putting the new engine to the test. “Despite being a three-cylinder engine, there is certainly no whining noise and the endless supply of power on tap is also impressive. “The greatest accolade of this engine is the midrange acceleration. Even on steep inclines, there is plenty of power and no slack point in gear changes. In busy traffic, the ADAM cruises along with ease and it eats up the tarmac out on the faster lanes. “It’s an incredibly easy car to drive. The roadholding is flawless and the ride is fairly smooth. Despite its canvas roof, there is very little noise within the cabin when the roof is closed.” Ashford concludes: “The latest addition to the ADAM range is a fabulous, economical car, packed with technology and guaranteed to put a smile on the face of anyone who drives it.” (Link: Daily Record, 19 September)
