ADIRE MAKERS APPLAUD AMOSUN FOR OPENING UP INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS CONTACT Manufacturers of the local Adire fabric produced in Ogun State have commended the Ogun State Government for opening up an international business network that will link them up with Austria. Speaking on behalf of the local fabric producers, who were part of the State contingents to a two day investment summit and Adire show in Vienna and Slovakia, Mr. Taiwo Olanrewaju said the trip had afforded them a wide range of opportunities ranging from the market exposure to the collaboration of Adire makers with textile industries abroad adding that the experience would ease their search for suitable fabrics for the production of the Adire textile to suit different purposes. According to Mr. Olanrewaju, “with the visit to Austria, another invitation has been extended to Adire makers to attend a fresh carnival in Austria tagged ‘African day’, the initial visit was a major break though for the Adire industry in Nigeria. The Nigeria Ambassador to Austria and Slovakia Maria Laose was pleased to have us, she organised for the Austrians to come and patronize us and we made great sales; we also taught them how to produce Adire”. The leader of the delegation and Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Yewande Amusan, said the state government was already looking into ways through which textile industries in Austria could have outlets in Nigeria to make suitable adire fabrics which would be affordable and available. This she said would in turn impact positively on the revenue generation of the State and curb illegal smuggling of fabrics into the country. The Carnival, which started with a street dance and a procession through Vienna, had in attendance, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly and Chairman House Committee on Information, Culture and Tourism, Hon. Olayiwola Ojodu as well as the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Culture, Chief Sina Williams.
