ADVICE NEEDED... for Special Mom but may of us are in this boat. post# K0022 Just wondering what other single parents do as far as supporting their family and still managing to care for their special needs children. Between my 3 kids they currently have at least 6 appointments a week. Often I spend most of the day driving one to an appointment and then rushing to get the one to school and then get another to another appointment. One of them has half day school starting at 11. Which is the biggest problem Ive run in to when trying to work is that I end up having to cancel all their appointments and therapies and I have trouble finding someone to watch them especially someone who can watch the half day school student and get her to school at 11. Traditional day care does not accommodate that type of schedule and is costly to put them all is. But now I am needing to get full time employment with insurance as I have no insurance and have some health issues and my oldest child has been on Medicaid (not special needs but sees a psychiatrist regularly) but is about to be dropped because we do not qualify. We do not qualify for a subsidy for the ObamaCare but do not qualify for traditional Medicaid either. I just am at a loss for how in the world people manage to work full time, pay for child care, get their kids to school, and still manage to keep up with appointments when you are a single parent! I cant even figure out how to find time to go in for an interview. Also, Im a CNA and that does not bring in a whole lot of income. Ideas? I mean I feel like Im better of just working weekends (as I currently do) when family can watch them, but it isnt full time and we have no insurance. Thanks for any positive feedback.
