AFC Leopards has been fined Sh500,000 over chaos that erupted following an aborted match between the team and Sofapaka F.C. During a meeting to discuss the incident on Tuesday, Football Kenya Federations national executive committee stated that it has established that serious acts of hooliganism and violence leading to bodily harm occurred during the match. The committee further said a section of AFC Leopards SC fans caused the abandonment of the match in the 85th minute by throwing stones and other objects into the field. They were allegedly targeting match officials, players and police officers on the field. This barbaric and heinous action resulted in serious injuries to the match officials, fans and damage to vehicles as well as destruction of Stadium property, the NEC said. Aside from the fine which AFC must pay within seven days, the committee has imposed other sanctions on the team which are as follows: 1. AFC Leopards S.C. will play their remaining 2014 Season matches in an empty stadium and compensate the Home team for loss of revenue in the event they are playing away. 2. AFC Leopards S.C. will pay for the medical expenses incurred by the the injured Match Officials and fans. 3. AFC Leopards S.C. must identify their scouts who were responsible for assaulting the match officials. 4. Arising from the abandonment the Match has been awarded to Sofapaka S.C. who will play Rangers F.C. in the finals of the FKF/GOTV Shield Match 5. AFC Leopards forfeit the 3rd /4th play off sport of the FKF/GOTV Shield match and any other benefits thereof. The Federation strongly condemns the acts of hooliganism, violence and the , destructive behaviour by a section of their misguided fans and this will not be tolerated hence forth. FKF said. FKF added that clubs must respect the decisions of referees and match officials at all times saying that this is a cardinal principle that guides the game. We hereby direct all our clubs to partner with the federation to curb this vice and educate their fans shun any acts of hooliganism and violence, FKF added. The Federation further faulted police officers who were deployed during the match for acting to slowly to contain the situation and for excessive use of tear gas which FKF said caused a stampede within the stadium
