AFFORDABLE CARE ACT AND MEDICAID / MEDICARE Since my Mom has been receiving Long Term Home Care through Medicaid, Ive been very involved in the changes being made to reduce Medicaid costs throughout the country and more specifically in New York State. The Affordable Care Act, despite considerable negative publicity, has addressed the issue of Medicaid and Medicare spending. There are, as always with new program concepts, negative issues to resolved. Most negative issues are discovered and identified by advocacy groups and individual advocates. As an advocate, I, over the past few months, have addressed a narrow but very important range of issues dealing with the Transition of Medicaid Home Health Care patients (my Mom falls into this category) to a mandated Managed Care Program that, on paper, if implemented properly using feedback from advocates like myself will, in fact, save Medicaid / Medicare dollars, one of the ultimate objectives of the Affordable Care Act.
