AFFORDABLE NEW HOMES AT RISK! Brighton needs an extra 19,000 new homes to be built over the next ten years to keep up with demand. The council planners are being lobbied by local residents who already have their own homes to prevent these homes being built. It is the Government Planning Inspector who decides whether to agree with the council and these local residents. The council is asking the government’s planning inspector to allow them to build only half the required amount so that they do not upset local residents who live close to development sites. It is vitally important that the Inspector is made aware of just how desperate people are for homes within the city. The decision will be made at the review of the City Plan which will be held over two weeks starting 22nd October at the Brighthelm Centre, North Road, Brighton and can be attended by members of the public. HAVE YOUR SAY! It is important that as many people as possible turn up to these hearings and protest. The agenda can be viewed at this link: brighton-hove.gov.uk/sites/brighton-hove.gov.uk/files/ID-06%20BHCC%20City%20Plan%20Part%20One%20Draft%20Programme.pdf Further information about the City Plan can be found here: brighton-hove.gov.uk/content/planning/local-development-framework/city-plan-part-one-examination
