AFICIONADOS TOP 25 AT CITY CIGAR Its January, which means the release of another round of top 25 picks from Cigar Aficionado. Actually, these get released in December, but given the flurry of activity around here that month, were often a little behind in our reporting of this yearly event. But thank you all for that, because if we had time to sit around reading magazines in December, wed probably be out of business by now :) Typically, most CA picks are not readily available in this country, and this year is no different. Of the 2014 picks, we have 3 of the exact vitolas (all Cuban). The #1 pick of 2014, the Oliva Series V Melanio Figurado, is not accessible as of this writing, but we will continue to pester whomever will listen to get them on our shelves. The tasting notes that accompany them are taken directly from the reviews. #4: Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especiale Tubo The cigar is very, very rich, with varied notes that include coffee, earth and cocoa powder, and a touch of graham cracker. #11: Cohiba Esplendido Recent production Cohiba Esplendidos show off rich, full-bodied flavors, such as salted caramel, black cherry and baked apple. #15: Montecristo Double Edmundo With gorgeous color, hints of oak and leather, the cigar seems to get better with each puff, culminating in a chocolatey finish.
