AFRICAN-AMERICAN FAMILY RESEARCH Free Special Presentation - Wednesday, June 19th, 7 pm This power point presentation will cover census records from 1790 through 1870 as well as records available at NARA. These will include United States Colored Troops and Freedmen records plus other records specific to researching Africans and African-Americans. She will give a brief introduction to the 1860 Slave Schedule Census, explain the use of plantation records to identify family groups, and provide online resources for researching Presenter Joyce Reese McCollum Began her journey as a genealogist in 1985, after learning that both of her maternal great-grandfathers were Civil War Veterans. having served in the United States Colored Troops. She participates in local genealogy groups, conducts workshops and lectures. She is currently documenting the history of African-American residents in the Phoenix area.
