AFRICAN INDUSTRIALIZATION DAY It was just yesterday that I was having a wonderful conversation about the seemly lack of technological invectiveness that is perhaps the bedrock for an industrial society. One of the questions we asked was what could be the problem with the African mind that has kept Africans behind the rest of the world. Today as we mark African Industrialization Day, it is important to reflect on this fundamental question. This year’s Africa Industrialization Day highlights the crucial role of job creation and entrepreneurship in eradicating poverty and will be observed in New York on 22 November 2013. Theme 2013: Job creation and entrepreneurship development: a means to accelerate industrialization in Africa Within the framework of the Second Industrial Development Decade for Africa (1991-2000), the UN General Assembly, in 1989, proclaimed 20 November Africa Industrialization Day (resolution 44/237). The Day is intended to mobilize the commitment of the international community to the industrialization of Africa. Nevertheless, Africa must be the principal actor for its own industrialization. Although Africa is home to some of the world’s fastest growing economies [...] too many people are still being left behind. Let us work together to foster job creation and entrepreneurship throughout the continent as critical ways to build a more prosperous and sustainable future for all.
