AGE PERSPECTIVE This morning a dear client of mine, without a notice, as he usually does, walked into my office. He is an 84 year-old retired inventor living in Virginia. He has been my client for more than 12 years now. And he travels all the way from Virginia to spend most of his winters here in Merida. This is THAT time of the year when we resume pending conversations and we catch up with life. After hugging each other, he fatherly insisted -like everytime he sees me again after some time- that I should not keep gaining weight, that it is bad for my health, he keeps giving me the same advice again and again and I pantiently let him love me his way and He has let me love him my way. I start asking about his wife. This time I sadly learned I am not going to try her amazing lasagna since she did not come with him since she is now affraid of flying and She might not come to Merida ever again. They are putting their home in the market but I noticed in his eyes he does not want to sell it. Then I change subject and ask him about old friends that usually come with him as his guests. He answers me that he is very sad because one of them is under cancer treatment, the other one broke a hip and can not travel with a cane, other has totally lost his hearing ability and loses his balances, and he goes on and on as he keeps listing 12 years of visitors getting normal human problems as -according to his words- : ...we get closer to the end of our journeys... Then he exited voice tells me, I am tired of that!!!, Youd better meet the friends I am coming with this year, you will get along with them. They are so young and energetic!! we are actually heading up to Uxmal right now... wow, that is great!! I said. And how old are your friends?.- I could not resist to ask. Oh, I do not know, but these friends are really young!!!, John is 70 and his lovely wife is 68, I think. he said as he walked out his way for a lovely day in Uxmal.
