AINSCA condemns desecration of freedom fighter Sapkota’s statue KALIMPONG, 23 Aug 2014: The All India Nepali Scheduled Castes Association has strongly condemned the recent desecration of the statue of freedom fighter Jangbir Sapkota located at 9th Mile. Association members said the historical statue near the new motor-stand area has been damaged a number of times and urged the administration to take strict action against the culprits. “The desecration has brought shame to Kalimpong. Rather than paying homage to the freedom fighter for his contribution to the nation, he has been treated with utter disrespect. Such an act is intolerable and calls for strong punishment,” said AINSCA secretary Hari Baraily. He also urged the administration and Kalimpong residents to shoulder the responsibility of safeguarding national monuments in town. (EOIC)
