AIR POWER DISCUSSION OF THE WEEK - ANSWER! SHOULD A CHRISTIAN TAKE PART IN LOTTERY? Dear all, Thank you for your contributions. I will like to begin my answer with this scripture. 1 Corinthians 6:12 reads, "All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any." I have personally not come across any scripture that expressly forbids lottery but the absence of that does not mean we cannot be guided by some general biblical principles. There are many things that are lawful or allowable, but may not be helpful or expedient. For example, I have personally not come across any scripture that forbids smoking but I know smoking is not medically helpful. I believe lottery falls in this category. I believe lottery has created more poor people than rich people. The probability of becoming poorer through lottery is higher than the probability of getting rich. Lottery has created more poor people than rich people. Based on this reason alone, i will personally not pursue it as an avenue of making money. Compounded with this problem is the probabilty of addiction. The primary way for creating wealth is through hardwork. All other means augment it including spiritual power. After the fall of Adam, God prescribed the primary method for making money. Genesis 3:19 reads, "In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat BREAD, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return." Bread; Food, material things, finances, houses, clothes, etc all rest on the foundation of hardwork. Because of this, I will personally not choose lottery as the primary way of making money. Blessings!
