AKC IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! The small numbers of the laws will only encourage the hobby/non commercial breeders to faze out of breeding. The large commercial breeders will comply to licensing and fees because this is their living! Those who believe these laws will stop the LARGE commercial breeders.....get real and educate yourself! When in fact they will probably need even more dogs to compensate for the new fees requirements to become compliant with state laws. Do you really think the state will require they take their 100 + dogs out of cages? Maybe they will require some cleaner conditions but not changes in the manner in which they live AND the law has no CAP on the amount of dogs owned or puppies produced per year!!! It only states 11 or more intact females OR 20 puppies per year which in case you didnt know....A small to mid sized dog with an average litter size of 5 pups this means 4 litters a year. So even if you have 11 females you can only breed 2-4 of them to stay UNDER the licensing requirements. How does that stop puppy mills again? A large breed dog this is 2 litters per year as they will typically have 9-15 pups per litter. Know any puppy mills that have only 2-4 litters a year???????? Dont fall for the crap you hear from PETA or HS! Those of you with registration applications in your desk drawer, send it in. This is how AKC can fight the boundaries and specifications of these laws to ensure in the future you will still have a small quality breeder to buy your next dog from. Otherwise the large commercial breeders will inevitably be the last man standing so to speak. How awful to think your options will be to buy your next dog from an uneducated backyard breeder or a commercial breeder who gives their pups no socialization or love and affection! Hows that for future options! Did you know that 70% of the shelter dogs are mixed breeds? In which many came from not breeders but pet homes who had accidental litters due to not spaying and neutering their pets! ? Did you know that many of the shelter/aka homeless dogs were brought here from other countries?
