AL-ILM (THE KNOWLEDGE) VS AN-NIYYAH (THE INTENTION)........ It is not permissible to seek knowledge just for the sake of it rather two things must be closely monitored for knowledge to become beneficial: 1. The knowledge to be sought must be CORRECT in itself and PERMISSIBLE to be sought. 2. The goal of seeking it must be to seek the face of Allaah alone (and this encompasses many issues). While the person that seek the impermissible/incoreect knowledge but with good intention and the person who seeks the correct/recommended/ obligatory knowledge but with evil intention, are BOTH upon SERIOUS ERRORS and treading the path of DESTRUCTION; the formmer will never be succesful no matter his good intention except he abandon the evil knowledge and its path. As for the latter, there is still a level of gurantee that, he can become succesful even along the path he chosees, the path of seeking correct knowledge with evil or inappropriate intention. This is because, correct knowledge compel its seeker to check and cross check his niyyah until Allaah guides whom He wills by it to correct his intention. And this is part of the wisdom contained in the saying of some of the Salaf: We sought this knowledge (yanee the correct knowledge) for other than the sake of Allaah. But the knowledge REFUSED that it should be sought except for the sake of Allaah #reflect_o_seeker!
