Matt Lorenz (aka The Suitcase Junket) is opening my whole Alaska tour next week, and I think youll flip over him, because of a common streak of stubborn independence. Case in point: he makes things. He made this whole drum rig. He found the guitar in a dumpster. He made the song with his mind and his body. He makes that crazy sound with his mouth and his skull (its called overtone singing and he learned it accidentally while trying to pronounce a word in an Indian cookbook). He makes tin-can fiddles, tea, beer and wine, and he makes keen observations. I have half a mind to drop him in the wilderness after the tour with a knife and a magnifying glass and see how long it takes him to become one with the woodland creatures. You can see us in Fairbanks, Valdez, Palmer, and Anchorage on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
