AMBASSADOR-DESIGNATE GRACES FILIPINO COMMUNITY EVENT IN SINGAPORE 27 May 2014- Ambassador-designate of the Philippines to Singapore Antonio A. Morales took part in his first event of the Filipino community in Singapore at the “Fiesta Ng Bayan” (FNB) 2014 held at the Hong Lim Park on May 25. Ambassador-designate Morales, who flew in from Beijing on May 21, was joined by other representatives of the Philippine Embassy. Initiated in 2013 originally as a feature of the main event of the Philippine Independence Day celebration in Singapore, FNB is organized as an annual event by a team of Filipino community leaders to help promote Philippine tourism. The program was highlighted by the Sikatuna Fest – a presentation of traditional dances from different regions in the Philippines; Ecouture – an eco-friendly gown design competition; and Battle of the Bands – showcase of Philippine original compositions. In his remarks, Ambassador-designate Morales expressed his gratitude to the organizers as well as to the members of the audience for the warm welcome that was extended to him noting that FNB is the first Filipino community event that he attended since his arrival from Beijing. He said that FNB is a very laudable initiative to help promote the Philippines adding that members of the Filipino community can be considered as ambassadors who play a big role in bridging economic relations between the Philippines and Singapore and promote people-to-people relations between the two countries. He noted that now is a golden opportunity to capitalize on the increasing popularity of the Philippines as one of the fastest growing economies in the region. Ambassador-designate Morales also took the opportunity to invite the members of the audience to attend the traditional flag-raising ceremony at the chancery of the Philippine Embassy to commemorate the 116th Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence on June 12. He also announced the ongoing overseas voters registration in preparation for the 2016 Presidential elections. END
