LIFE’S INSPIRATIONS: “…`For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, `plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’…” (Jeremiah 29:11, the Holy Bible). -ooo- EMPOWERING MESSAGES FOR YOLANDA VICTIMS: It is laudable and highly inspiring indeed for the volunteers repacking relief goods under the supervision of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to be writing inspiring messages on the plastic bags containing the relief goods such as “don’t lose hope, we love you”. Good words and edifying messages truly work miracles in uplifting depressed spirits all the time. But I have a suggestion. Perhaps, the DSWD volunteers can also make use of passages from the Books of Psalms and Proverbs of the Bible as messages for the victims of Yolanda. That way, the victims will not only be inspired to move on, they would even be empowered with God’s awesome love for those who turn to Him. Here’s a sample of a verse which gives great hope, from Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight. -ooo- POTABLE WATER EVEN IN TIMES OF CALAMITIES: While the efforts of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the University of Tokyo to find ways to optimize the use of existing dams to store more water for use in the National Capital Region during calamities are most welcome, the real question centers on how fast can JICA and the University of Tokyo do this optimization. In other words, how long are we to wait? It is clear, from past experiences of ours, that when calamities strike, the single most important item that victims, whether rich or poor, whether young or old, need is water. But then, for many and varied reasons, water becomes scarce or altogether unavailable after a calamity, compounding the suffering of the victims even more. So, with due respect to JICA and to the government, what we must all do now is to make sure that each and every local government unit will own a machine that will turn even floodwaters and waters from canals, creeks or rivers or from any other source, including the sea, into safe and potable water. In all humility I would like to say, I have partners who have these machines. If anyone is interested, call me at the numbers below and let’s assure a ready source of water all the time, anywhere! -ooo- SAVINGS AS INVESTMENT FOR FUTURE NEEDS: One of the greatest nightmares of Filipino working men and women right now is the occurrence of events---unforeseen but definite to come, at one point in time or another---which will require them to spend hard-earned money at the wink of an eye, so to speak. When someone in the family gets sick, or suffers some graver misfortune, money being saved flies off the window almost in an instant. When that happens, all savings are depleted, and for those who do not have any savings at all, the occasion calls for begging, or securing loans (usually at usurious interests), or selling off prized properties. Everything is lost, as it were, simply because there was no preparation for these unpalatable eventualities. But there is a way to save, and then assure that when calamities or unforeseen events strike, there is ready money, sufficient to meet the financial needs. I learned of this after I became a “financial consultant” of a company that offers a system by which working individuals can save and then, on the strength of what they saved, obtain funds for medical or hospitalization expenses arising from any sickness or accident, and even for the education of their children.
