AN IDEA FROM MY SWEET FRIEND CATHY...Just wanted to share an idea with everyone. I was reading an article in Sheltering magazine about a man who raised funds to buy his local fire department oxygen masks for pets. He then proceeded to get funds for surrounding departments. I was very surprised to discover that the kits containing three sizes of masks and the necessary hoses, etc are only $75. Shocked to discover that even at that low price, most fire departments don’t have them. I approached the bird club I belong to – we usually donate our club funds to avian research – and they agreed to donate the masks to the fire departments where our members live – 13 so far in all. Had they not, I was going to donate one myself to the fire department that services my location. But I think if anyone stood in front of their local supermarket with a Basset and a sign letting people know that their fire department needed the masks, animal lovers would donate that small amount in a heartbeat. Bad enough to lose an animal family member in a fire, but it would be unbearable knowing it could possibly have been avoided for a mere $75. The fire departments I’ve spoken to have all been more than enthusiastic about receiving the kits. The site I ordered them from is petoxygenmasks.org and the company is Wag’N O2 Fur Life.
