ANANTNAG: Keeping in view the forecast for heavy snowfall especially in south Kashmir snow clearance preparedness and availability of essential commodities was reviewed in a high level meeting chaired by Dy. Commissioner Anantnag, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone. The meeting was attended by Ex. Engineers of Mechanical Engineering department, R&B, PMGSY, PDD besides officers of CA&PD and other concerned departments. It was given out in the meeting that all the required men and machinery for snow clearance has been kept ready at the designated spots for quick and rapid response to the snowfall. Dr. Lone advised people of hilly areas including Kapran, Mati-Bidhard, Pahalgam and other adjoining areas to restrict their movement during the day and not to venture out during night hours to avoid any untoward incident as snow avalanches are expected during the coming days. Dy. Commissioner Kulgam Jehangir Mir also convened officers meeting to review the arrangements and preparedness. He directed the officers to remain cautious and take appropriate precautionary measures to minimize breakdown of essential services including road connectivity. Dy. Commissioner also advised the people living in higher reaches of Kund area especially living in avalanche prone areas to take appropriate precautionary measures to avert any untoward accident. He called for evacuation of people living in Waltengoo Nar and Mirasi Nalla. NT Chowgam and police concerned were asked to take immediate steps to shift the people to safer places. It was also impressed upon the officers not to leave the station without written permission besides officers on leaves were called to attend duties as all kinds of leaves stand cancelled in view of the situation.
