ANC FREE STATE PGC 2014 MEDIA STATEMENT The Provincial General Council was a resounding success. In the preparation; during proceedings and the outcomes; the PGC demonstrated ANC discipline; focus on strategic moves and commitment to serve the people. Provincial chair set a tone and gave clear direction as to where we are and how to move forward. Presentation by NEC leadership on Strategy and Tactics; Organisational Renewal was an important basis for discussions and commission outcomes. The Organisational report reported progress made since both Provincial Conference 2013 and National conference in 2014 including resolutions not implemented yet. The PGC gave clear marching orders on how the pace of implementation can be accelerated. Provincial General Council Resolution (PGC) 1. Organisational Renewal & Building the Organisation Resolved on the importance of a united and cohesive organisation, that political education be accelerated, and be centralised to the province. Member recruitment to achieve our 500 target by March 2015. 2. Economic Transformation Radical economic transformation must ensure developing economy that contributes to the eradication of poverty, inequality and unemployment. Social labour plan Establish refineries in the province for beneficiation of mining , agriculture and food products Agriculture 3. Governance Governance must be at the centre of ANC service delivery structures, emphasise the need for clean audit, in instances to struggling local municipalities particular time frames set to formalise all informal settlements in the programme 4. Elections/ Communication We must begin the urgent task toward local government elections. ANC must keep contact with the people, major, and councillors to undertake regular meetings with communities. Utilise community media to empower communities with knowledge about the programmes intended to change their lives The PGC was reflective of ANC character, frank, democratic and robust debates in line with our theme; Back to Basics towards People’s Power. We are confident that we are emerging from the PGC more united and cohesive, having engaged in 3 days and adopted a programme demonstrating that the ANC is in a better shape than before. MATLA!
