ANNEAU vs ANO In French, a RING is called un ANNEAU, pronounced in Filipino like ANU. In Filipino, ANO means what. There was this story about a French diplomat and his Filipina paramour. One day, she reminds him that he promised her a ring, to which he replied ANNEAU? If he was speaking in Tagalog, he might have suddenly turned deaf to divert the issue or if he was speaking in French, then he might have been trying to refresh his memory of his promise. Can you imagine if there is such a thing as Tag-French (Tagalog French)? If someone says ANNEAU ba yan? Thats probably asking if the gem on the ring is genuine! Considering that there were French members in Magellans expedition, perhaps we can say that the Filipino ANO came from French? A Czech may answer ANO, that is YES in the Czech language.
