ANNOUNCEMENT FOR CLARIFICATION The FREE DNA test is NOT for African Americans (descendants of those brought here via the transatlantic trade). It is for native Africans. It is to help build the database of African DNA in hopes to give us African Americans more details about our ancestry and a few other things. If someone tries to take this FREE test and not meet the eligibility requirements, they will have to pay the $99. SO please dont give them incorrect data to get a free test. Eligible individuals must: have four (4) grandparents from the same sub-Saharan African country. Countries of interest include Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Côte dIvoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo , Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, and Sierra Leone. be 18 years of age, have Internet access and be willing to take an online survey about ancestry and provide a saliva sample, live in the United States in a state that allows 23andMe shipping.* https://23andme/cohort/africanancestry/ *Please note that we cannot ship or provide services to residents of the state of Maryland. Only one free kit per family. Family members of existing 23andMe customers are welcome to enroll in the project, but are not eligibile for a free kit.
