ANYI EJEBE NSUKKA? These days when Im in the East and I go around Enugu metropolis, I see billboards - strategically placed - conveying the message Anyi ejebe Nsukka meaning we are heading to Nsukka with the image of the governor Sullivan Chime (in an Ozor titled man attire) and, I think, that of our President. Barrister Chime has offered himself, from the word go, as a lover of the Nsukka people but he had also abused that notion by handpicking who became local government chairmen within the Nsukka senatorial zone. I will always laugh and ask myself “kedu uzo esi eje nyabu Nsukka”?, through which road? Is it the kind of road in the image below? So, Anyi ejebe Nsukka is the latest assault on Barrister Chimes political shenanigans’ slate with which he hoodwinks the unsuspecting people of the Nsukka zone for political gains. Governor Chime has expressed so much how he loves the Nsukka people - and even claimed that he was with them on struggle for Adada state, when he - as a lawyer - knows the herculean trends of that demand - and yet there was no credible infrastructural development either, directly, from state capital expenditure or, indirectly, through a coaxed federal government presence. The only one road that would have opened up the farming communities in the Nsukka zone - running all the way from Nkalagu through Ogbodu Aba, Ikem, Obollo down to the town of Nsukka, through Uzouwani to somewhere in Aguleri in Anambera state has been bedridden for years. And the governor could have used that to put his love for the people in practical terms. Another road infrastructure that would have connected the Nsukka people with the Ejules of Kogi State through Alor Uno, Ibagwa Ani, Okpuje and Okwutu did not also get a boost either directly from a governor who loved those people or indirectly through federal government by this same governors influence. There is this saying in my place that states that if I will be on your back and my legs still drag on the rough surface, I would rather get down from your back and drowse along as much as my strength would support me. It is important if Governor Chime puts his show of love to the Nsukka people in concrete terms. We are now watching how Gov. Chime will install the choice of Nsukka people as the governor of Enugu State come 2015. If he proves me wrong then Nsukka will have the opportunity to develop herself which has become the fashion of Enugu politics. Chimaroke concentrated in his domain, Chime concentrated in his domain, then an Nsukka governor is supposed to concentrate in his own domain and I hope, if and when an Nsukka governor emerges, we will not begin to talk about distributed development. I know what Agbani looked like before Chimaroke and what it became after him. Even a University faculty was relocated – from Nsukka to Ituku Ozala – during Chimarokes eight dark years in Enugu State. I also have an idea of what Udi Zone was before Bar. Chime. I have gone round and I know what it is now. We know what Nsukka Zone has been. The Nsukka people are to Enugu State what the whole Igbo are to Nigeria. Very creative, industrious, educated and committed to the rule of law as Igbos may be, they are always taken for granted in the Scheme of things in Nigeria. And Nigeria pays dearly for it unknowingly. In the same vein, the Nsukka people, very educated, committed to the rule of law, industrious, gregarious, humane, docile, sincere, intelligent and honest people they are and they are usually taken for granted in the scheme of things in Enugu State and Enugu pays dearly for that. The Igbos have the population that should have, naturally, given them a say in Nigerias democracy but, just for some unknown forces, they have become a group that get things by dash. This is also symmetrically what the Nsukka people face in the Enugu equation. The Nsukka people have the natural population that would have bestowed on them, in a democracy, the right to decide where the pendulum swings to, but today the choice of producing a governor has become a favour they get for being pushed around on whom to support politically. ... to be continued
