APC: PDP Can’t Rule Yoruba land Again The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said because of the persistent violence in the country, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cannot rule Yorubaland again. APC also alleged that the infrastructure built by late Chief Obafemi Awolowo for the well being of the Yoruba people was ruthlessly destroyed by the PDP between 1999 and 2010 and the that the Yoruba nation will never forgive the PDP for it. The party stated this in a statement... by the state APC Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Kunle Oyatomi, in reaction to the reported plan of the PDP to recapture the South-west, beginning from Ekiti and Osun States this year. The APC reminded the PDP that it was during its reign that some Yoruba leaders were killed without trace of their killers and the essential infrastructure for human capital development as well as the industrial infrastructure that Awolowo laid down were recklessly destroyed or sold off to competitors within Nigeria and also to foreign interests. “Since 2010 when Awolowo loyalists assembled in Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) now merged with other political parties to form the APC which finally recaptured all states in the South-west except Ondo, the Yoruba nation has been trying to reconstruct itself to attain the standard that Awolowo left and move forward from there. “It is therefore inconceivable, that these people who have been so hurt by the PDP will for any reason whatsoever vote that party into power again,” the statement said. The APC argued that on the balance, the PDP experience both at the federal and state levels, concerning the Yoruba people was and is still “an unmitigated disaster from which we are still struggling to recover. “Our educational institutions were destroyed; our leadership in business and industry was strangulated between 1999 and 2010. The great agricultural infrastructure laid down by Awolowo was left to rot and/or destroyed.” It remarked further that: “Our children were forced out of schools when these schools became non-accessible to them because of federal character nonsense. And today, the Yoruba people suffer the worse form of injustice through marginalisation in practically all aspect of governance at the centre in a country where they were once the pace-setters.” The APC said as currently constituted, the PDP lacked the personnel, the intellectual capacity and the philosophical background to provide the Yoruba people with any form of well-being from Lagos to Abeokuta, Ibadan to Osogbo, Akure and to Ado Ekiti, “because our experience with them was that of monumental failure.” The party therefore called on Yoruba people to be wary of those politicians of prey who assembled in the PDP, “because all they are out to do is to feed fat on the Yoruba people and their resources.”
