ARMY top brass have descended on Islams Glastonbury to recruit Muslims to join the fight against terrorism. By Jerry Lawton They want them to shun Isis terror training camps in Syria and instead serve in the military like their brave grandads and great-grandads did during two world wars. The Ministry of Defence has erected a recruitment marquee at the Living Islam Festival in Lincoln – the biggest Islamic gathering in the UK. And the 50,000 Muslims who attend will be entertained by a military marching band. Event organisers want them to shun extremist warmongers and take inspiration instead from their forefathers heroics. A century ago more than 400,000 Indian soldiers fought with loyalty and pride and another 600,000 did in World War Two. It is a very powerful message for the Muslim community Dilwar Hussain, festival organiser A memorial at Neuve-Chapelle in France commemorates 4,742 Indian soldiers with no known graves who fell there in World War One. The inscription in English, Hindi and Gurmukhi says: God is one. His is the victory. Festival organiser Dilwar Hussain said: It shows that 100 years ago we were British and nobody could question the idea of serving your country. It is a very powerful message for the Muslim community. Sughra Ahmed, the first female president of the Islamic Society of Britain, said Muslims defended the nation and our borders all the way from India to the heart of Europe. Chief Of Defence Staff Sir Nicholas Houghton has welcomed the contribution made by the 650 Muslims currently in the Armed Forces and would like to take on many more.
