ARTICLE | CALL TO VOTE ON CITYS POPULATION EXPLOSION (Text below - we cant find it in the online edition.) Australians should have the chance to vote on slowing down the nations population growth, says a political leader. A campaign calling for a referendum or plebiscite on the issue is expected to be launched in Melbourne today by a coalition of grassroots groups. Sustainable Population Party President William Bourke said he would propose a referendum question calling for a cap on annual net overseas migration of 70,000, down from the current 250,000. The aim would be to stabilise Australias population at around 26 million by 2040, he said. (Article then goes on to mention Kelvin Thomson and others who will be taking part in the meeting. Nice surprise to get some publicity in the Herald Sun!)
