ASEAN Secretary-General to Visit the ROK Ahead of the ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit set to take place in Busan on December 11 and 12, ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh is on a visit to the Republic of Korea from October 7 through 13 at the invitation of the ROK Foreign Ministry. During his visit, the Secretary-General will make a courtesy call on President Park Geun-hye and visit the BEXCO, the ASEAN-Korea Centre, the Korea-China-Japan Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat and the Secretariat of the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization. On October 8, President Park will meet with the ASEAN Secretary-General to exchange views on the ROK-ASEAN relations across the board and ways to step them up down the road. The Secretary-General will also meet with the First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to review the preparations for the ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit and to discuss matters concerning the ROK-ASEAN cooperation. The ASEAN Secretary-General’s visit to the ROK is expected to help make smooth progress in preparations for the Commemorative Summit. It is also expected to serve as a good opportunity to strengthen the ROK-ASEAN cooperation ahead of the envisioned launch of an ASEAN community in 2015.
