ASL19 researchers have compiled this aggregated roundup of news and analysis related to the 2013 Presidential Elections. The report starts from January 2013, and ends the week prior to the election, on June 7, 2013. We look at the main events in the lead up to the elections, including journalist arrests and newspaper closures; throttling of VPNs; the different political affiliations of Iranian newspapers, and their headlines, and role of media censorship, and propaganda in Iranian politics, especially in the selection and elimination of presidential candidates. This report also documents the changing nature of Iranian state media’s editorial policies, leading up to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting’s (IRIB) first presidential debates, and the reactions and discussions that have ensued amongst Iranians. https://theglobaldialogue.ca/election-watch-2013/
