ASSALAMU ALAIKUM WA RAHMATULLAHI WA BARAKAATUHU....... IM REALLY DISAPPOINTED IN YOU SHEIKH. DR. AHMAD GUMI, AND KINDLY BE AN HORNEST AND KINDNESS, PRIVATE CONSULTANT NOT A PUBLIC ATTACKER. THIS IS NOT HOW OUR LOVABLE AND ADORABLE SHEIKH ABUBAKAR MAHMUD GUMI HAS DONE TO OUR PASS RESPECTED HEROES AND ELDERS. Yaa Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Gumi: 1- Avoid Giving Advice in the Form of Reprimand According to Imam Al-Ghazali, the principal difference between giving advice and reprimand is that giving advice is confidential and courteous, whereas reprimand is public and tactless. It is said that Imam Ash-Shafi`i observed that when a man corrects his brother confidentially, he gives him an advice, but if he corrects him openly, he ridicules and belittles him. Al-Fudayl ibn `Iyad said, A believer covers up and advises [his or her fellow believers], whereas an evildoer exposes and humiliates [others]. Imam Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali commented on Al-Fudayls words saying, It is considered an advice if it is done in private while humiliation if it is broadcasted. He adds, [As for] the one who exhorts his brother in private, it is an advice. [As regards] the one who exhorts him in front of people, it is merely scolding! 2- KEEP PRIVACY Giving advice in Islam should not involve exposing or exploring the privacy and personal weaknesses of people. It is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, [For] whoever pursues the shortcomings of people, Allah will pursue theirs (At-Tirmidhi). 3- AVOID MAKING JUDGMENTS Avoid being judgmental; do not attack the other partys character. An advice that is perceived as being harsh or judgmental is likely to offend the person hearing it. 4- AVOID THREATENING Do not make threats or scare someone by turning advice or criticism into veiled ultimatums. Such displays of authority (or superiority) are unlikely to produce positive results. 5- Avoid Compelling Others to Follow Your Advice It is obligatory on the advisor to render sincere advice to others, but it is not his right to compel others to follow his advice. Ibn Hazm once said, One should not give advice on the condition that it must be accepted. If one goes beyond this, he will be oppressing [others] not advising, thus seeking obedience and control. 6- Give Advice as an Act of Worship, Not as a Habit For some people, giving advice turns into a habitual pattern. Sometimes one gives advice to others to avoid dealing with ones own problems. An important Sufi rule states, He who is preoccupied with telling others to be good may find no time to be good. 7- Be Kind and Gentle Imam Muslim narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, Gentleness is not to be found in anything but that it adds to its beauty, and it is not withdrawn from anything but it makes it defective. Thus, one ought to be gentle and kind while giving an advice. Such method is agreed upon between all religions and cultures. Samuel Taylor Coleridge, a famous English poet, says, Advice is like snow; the softer it falls, the longer it dwells upon, and the deeper it sinks into the mind. Finally, it is important to mention that giving advice is an essential trait of a Muslims character. Imam An-Nawawi narrates in his famous book Riyad-us-Saliheen that Jarir ibn `Abdullah said, I came to the Prophet and declared, I pledge my allegiance to you in Islam. The Prophet said, On condition that you pray, give charity, and offer advice. Jarir then said, I thus pledged my oath of allegiance. I WILL ONLY VOTE A PERSON THATS A ZERO CORRUPTION. >We are people with different inclinations but for the purpose of those who are detached from history or the youths below the age of 30 or those who had been fed with historical distortions there is need to put the record straight for a man whose track record remains a phenomenon in Nigeria, Africa and the world at large. > ># Buhari was governor of Borno state under Obasanjo regime and later minister of petroleum > ># Buhari birthed and supervised the establishment of the existing refineries. > ># He was head of state between 1983 -1985 (a period of 20 months) > ># There was no religious crisis while he was head of state > ># He reduced inflation from 23% to 4% by fiscal discipline and home grown economic team (not achieved under any other era) > ># J.J. Rawlings of Ghana took over 2 years before him and killed all the corrupt leaders, while Buhari only sentenced the corrupt leaders in Nigeria to prison. > ># Under his watch as PTF chairman, what he did in road construction in that short period hasnt been matched by 12 years of the PDP. > ># Hospitals and universities around the country never witnessed as much benefits as they got from the PTF from any government after or before his time. > ># He refused to collect allowance while serving as chairman of the PTF because he said he was already drawing a pension from government, his conscience would not allow him to draw another salary from the purse of same government. > ># He returned excess money spent to purse of government on his return from oversea training as a military officer > ># He is the only former head of state that does not own property or land in Abuja. > ># Buhari personally recommended late Dora Akunyili to OBJ because of her diligence during PTF interaction. > ># Every attempt to rubbish him through probes in time past ended up vindicating him! The man who was asked by OBJ to take over PTF before it was scrapped with the aim of indicting Buhari ended up being prosecuted for misappropriating $100 million of PTF funds! > ># His personal driver of many years is a christian from Plateau state! > ># He has OPENLY challenged those who accuse him of religious fundamentalism to come out and show proof. No one has tilltoday, taken up the challenge. > ># He is the ONLY politician in northern Nigeriatoday who fills rallies without renting a crowd! > ># People who know him (including pastor Bakare) have said of him...... All I need from Buhari is his word, I can take it to the bank. > >If honesty and probity are the things you want for Nigeria, now is the time to choose right. > >Conscience is an opened wound, only truth can heal it > >Spread the message to the uninformed, misinformed and all Nigerians home and abroad.
