ASUU carpets FG over insurgency The approach government adopted towards fighting insecurity in the country is tepid, ineffective and mostly ‘after the act’ approach. This was the position of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) when it commented on the spate of insecurity in the country on Monday. ASUU in a state of the nation address in Abuja, said it is evident that government is losing grip of the situation at hand based on the consistency and boldness of the attacks by Boko Haram and purported ‘Fulani Herdsmen’ in the North Central states in recent times. National President of ASUU, Nasir Fagge, said the more the government claims to have tried to curb the insurgency, the more it grows and expands to other frontiers. Nasir however proffered solutions, saying if government must come to terms with the realities of terrorism and contain it, it must adopt a comprehensive strategy and jettison its fire brigade approach and policies. “These approach must include socio-economic development and education, crucially the pursuit of a humanistic socio-economic development with the goal of fulfilling the needs of the people, society’s control of the commanding height of the economy,” he said.
