ASWAN Nubia Museum A 25th Dynasty Cushite - TopicsExpress

ASWAN Nubia Museum A 25th Dynasty Cushite priest of Amon. The Nubian Museum in Aswan ranks as one of Egypts best presented museums. Inside a the musuem building which itself is a delight, exhibits are presented clearly with clearly written explanations. The museum presents Nubian history through more than 6500 years. Although never as impressive as Egyptian history, Nubian civilization emerged parallel to Egyptian, and several times through history, Nubian and Egyptian history merged. The cultural amalgamation is clearly visible, in the respect that very typical Egyptian designs are mixed with the representation of Negroids. Much of Egyptian history would survive in a Nubian context after its final end in Egypt; pyramids were used for tombs deep down in Nubia until the 4th century CE (see Nubian pyramids). There is a wide range of statues throughout history, several well-made miniatures, showing several of the temples built on Nubian soil. There is also a splendid exhibition showing everyday life in Nubia a few decades ago (bottom photo). Admission fee is E£20, additional fees for photo and video permits, opening hours 9.00-13.00 and 17.00-21.00. Next page Miniature of the temple of Dendur.
