ATEMENT FROM MIRACLE MEADOWS SCHOOL, 8/25/14: We do not normally make public statements given the nature of our work and the special needs we manage. But the current situation has damaged Miracle Meadows, our parents and beloved students. We are compelled to again speak out guided only by the following intentions: • To ensure the safety, well-being and privacy of our students; • To further understanding and support for at-risk children with RAD, especially those with attachment issues; • To demonstrate compassion, transparency and an interest in fostering understanding and support. Caring for our students is the foundation of all we do at Miracle Meadows School. It is a Christian boarding alternative school that enrolls boys and girls, grades 1-12 with at-risk behaviors. Parents who enroll their children are responsible for tuition and have ongoing contact via letters, phone, SKYPE and visits. They can remove their loved one(s) from our care at any time. The population of Miracle Meadows includes two general categories – adolescent adjustment issues and Early Development Trauma, often diagnosed as Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD). Most of the RAD children are adopted and have experienced neglect and abuse in the first three years of life. The results are a lack of learning the foundational lessons of life: safety, trust, belonging, love, self-regulation, empathy, active conscience, and remorse. They are often filled with rage (“A Child of Rage,” a revealing documentary and interview on YouTube with a child reflective of many students enrolled at Miracle Meadows). The risks involved in serving RAD students are high. They are driven to pathologically lying and claiming false allegations (“When Love Is Not Enough” by Nancy Thomas). The level of supervision and personal intervention required is very high. Parents desperately need a place like Miracle Meadows where we refuse to give up on these hurt children, and are always looking for better ways to serve them. We are determined to stay open as Christian Alternative School, serving families of faith and non-faith. Despite what has been in the news, Miracle Meadows was not a recipient of any written court orders except for “after-the-effect” search warrants and orders to remove children. The school has violated no known written court order. We are currently reviewing the allegations against Mr. Arrington and Ms. Clark and are confident that a full and informed investigation will prove that the situation alleged is simply untrue. As we publicly stated on Tuesday, August 19th, our Board has decided to take legal action against West Virginia DHHR for handling investigation improperly. We acknowledge and respect DHHR’s fight for the safety of these Miracle Meadows School Address: 99 Miracle Meadows Drive, Salem, WV 26426 | Phone: (304) 782-3630/3628 | Fax: (304) 782-3660 Email: info.miraclemeadows@gmail | Website: miraclemeadows.org children. We too are driven by this same concern every day. For this very reason, Miracle Meadows is dedicated to doing what is only the very best for our students. We will continue to cooperate with authorities. We will continue to work towards opening our doors, so that we’re able to offer a safe, nurturing and compassionate environment for children with RAD and other special needs.
